From September 23 to 27, La Mercè returns. And, as every year, Barcelona's biggest annual festival offers a large number of free concerts that can be enjoyed in squares, streets, and beaches of Barcelona. This year's line-up includes, we find renowned artists such as Pol Batlle, Svetlana, Maria Jaume, Els Amics de les Arts, Els Catarres, Teràpia de Shock, Miki Núñez, Maika Makovski, Ivan Herzog, Al·lèrgiques al Pol·len, La Pegatina, or Sabor de Gràcia.

A wide variety of genres and styles to ensuring there's something for everyone: pop, rock, flamenco, traditional music, or Catalan rumba will fill the days with music, joy, and culture.

A festival open to the world

This year, the musical program features artists from about thirty countries. But the great international protagonist of this edition is Shanghai, the guest city that will connect Chinese tradition with contemporaneity.

The Chinese metropolis arrives in the city with three proposals: the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Jazz Ensemble, which reinterprets the language of jazz through a contemporary Chinese lens; the Shanghai Restoration Project, which blends of electronics, hip-hop, and traditional music; and the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra, one of the great ensembles dedicated to the country's musical heritage.

The Música Mercè proposal, led by artistic director Gisela Sais, brings together 34 concerts that take popular sound and pushes it into more adventurous and experimental territory. It is a space where the Catalan rumba of Sabor de Gràcia or the flamenco of María Terremoto will coexist with the singer-songwriter music of Luísa Sobral and Nacho Vegas, the Latin American rock of Aterciopelados, the psychedelia of Arp Frique, or the festive music of La Pegatina.

In addition, the festival strongly supports local talent with five original productions created especially for La Mercè, such as La Barcelona Flamenca, the symphonic concert of Vozes with Marco Mezquida, or Carola Ortiz's proposal in Plaça de Sant Jaume.

On the other hand, the BAM (Barcelona Acció Musical) introduces new curators (Aina Pociello and Marta Mei) and reaffirms its role as a platform for emerging music. The BAM will offer 39 concerts that will be the meeting point for the most current music: from the hip-hop of Uzi Freyja to the rock of The Slates, passing through Sandra Monfort or the premieres of Brama and Sandré.

The 16 stages of La Mercè 2026

The La Mercè concerts will take place in sixteen venues across the city. The Teatre Grec will host major author concerts and special productions; the Nou Barris District Headquarters will once again be the the city's main symphonic venue; the Avinguda de la Catedral will host rumba, flamenco, and roots music concerts, and the Jardins del Doctor Pla i Armengol will be filled with jazz and emerging talent.

The most popular and the biggest concerts will be held on the Avinguda de Maria Cristina and Bogatell Beach, where acts like Els Catarres, Els Amics de les Arts, Buhos, or Al·lèrgiques al Pol·len will perform. And the urban and alternative scene acts of BAM will gather at Plaça Catalunya, the Moll de la Fusta, the Rambla del Raval, and the Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm.
