Joaquim Uriach Torelló takes over from Mariona Carulla at the helm of the Palau de la Música after she has been leading it for the last three terms. Uriach (Barcelona, 1966) will be her substitute as president of the Associació Orfeó Català and the Fundació Orfeó Catalana-Palau de la Música Catalana for the next four years.
The candidacy of the former president and shareholder of the pharmaceutical laboratory Uriach has been the only one presented for the elections and, consequently, the election day that had been scheduled for June 20 has been canceled. The winning team will be recognized at the general assembly of members on June 21. Uriach has obtained more than double the necessary endorsements to be admitted to the electoral race, with a total of 210. At a minimum, any candidacy must be endorsed by one hundred voting members of the Orfeó Català ---all those who have two years of uninterrupted seniority---.
Uriach is accompanied by Eugenia Bieto Caubet (first vice-president), Lluís Domènech Girbau (second vice-president), Joan Vallvé Ribera (first secretary), Ignacio Garcia-Nieto Portabella (treasurer), Jordi Cabré Trias (second secretary), Jaume Martí Llobet (archivist-librarian), Mar Calvet Francesch (first vocal), Xavier Garcia-Moll Marimón (second vocal), Mar Giné Guix (third vocal), Joan Planes Vila (fourth vocal), Emili Ros Fàbregas (fifth vocal), Mireia Tomàs Carulla (sixth vocal), Gloria Vicens Hernández (seventh vocal) and Albert Guinovart (president of the Artistic Commission).
In her last season presentation as president, Carulla avoided making an assessment of all these years and only confessed that she leaves being "wiser." Her only request was to be replaced by a younger team. Her mandate began in 2009 and has been extended to the maximum allowed by the regulations, approved by herself.
