The Internet of Things (IoT) is providing a great opportunity for a high percentage of companies to reinvent themselves, and with it, the growth and development of the economy will also be boosted. And Barcelona, with the celebration of the largest international event dedicated to the transformation of industry through disruptive technologies, IOT Solutions World Congress (IOTSWC), is good proof of this.
From May 10 to 12, the city will be the stage for the dissemination of advances such as a smart refrigerator that uses Artificial Intelligence cameras to reduce food waste and apply dynamic pricing; a digital twins service designed to implement pay-per-use in the construction sector, or an intelligent heritage conservation system capable of anticipating maintenance needs of assets through virtual reality and remote monitoring.
Many practical examples like these will demonstrate how the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, digital twins, Blockchain, and other technologies can transform companies and businesses.
The event, organized by Fira de Barcelona in collaboration with the Industrial Internet Consortium, returns to an in-person celebration this May at the Gran Via exhibition center, after two years of interruption due to the pandemic. In addition, it coincides with the global trade fair event Integrated Systems Europe (ISE), for professionals in the audiovisual and systems integration sector which, after its first virtual experience in Barcelona in 2021 due to the coronavirus, closes a stage of 17 editions in Amsterdam to be located in the Catalan capital. Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) will take place from May 10 to 13.
Under the slogan Game-changing technologies for industry transformation, IOTSWC will bring together more than 310 exhibitors to showcase technological solutions that can benefit companies from multiple sectors. Corporations such as ABB, Altair, Amazon Web Services, EMnify, Fiware, Hornet Security, Huawei, Kaspersky, KNX, RFPD, Relayr, Siemens, and Trellix have already confirmed their presence to showcase their technologies.
In addition, the fair features the Testbeds area, with a dozen selected examples of how the most advanced technologies can be successfully combined to produce tangible solutions for various industries.
A debate platform
However, IOTSWC is not only an international event to disseminate technological and innovative advances in various sectors, but also a meeting point for analysis and debate. Hence, in all its editions ---and the next one will be no exception--- renowned experts from all over the world will share their experiences on the latest trends in digital transformation.
This year, it is worth highlighting the participation of Ann Dunkin, Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the US Department of Energy and author of the book Industrial Digital Transformation: Accelerate digital transformation with business optimization, AI, and Industry 4.0. Chosen by ComputerWorld magazine as one of the 100 most outstanding technology professionals, Dunkin has an extensive career as CIO of the Environmental Protection Agency for the administration of former President Obama and has been director of technology and strategy at Dell.
In total, more than 200 speakers will participate in the event, which will structure its program around five themes: business optimization, artificial intelligence, connectivity, security, and customer experience. It will feature experts from companies such as Airbus, Bühler, Dow, Johnson & Johnson, Lego, Nestlé, PCL Construction, and Volkswagen.
Cybersecurity, under debate
Within the framework of the fair, coordinated by the International Society of Automation (ISA) and with the collaboration of the Agència de Ciberseguretat de Catalunya, the third edition of the Barcelona Cybersecurity Congress (BCC) will take place. This congress will address the need to increase security in all sectors to avoid or minimize the effects of an attack by cybercriminals. Cyber threats, IoT, and the industrial and automotive sectors will be the central focus of the presentations given by, among others, Frank Courbon, Security Lead at Churchill College; Elliot Lear, Principal Engineer at Cisco; Rob Dobson, Vice President of Device Authority; Francisco Garcia, Director of Digital Plant - Industrial Automation Cybersecurity Solutions at Schneider; and José María Cavanillas, Director of Worldwide IoT Partner Management at Atos. The participation of speakers from leading companies such as Fortinet, Nespresso, and Volvo also stands out.
Cybersecurity will be one of the central themes in this year's editionTo showcase these advances in cybersecurity, the congress is complemented by two areas: innovation and talent acquisition. On the one hand, the event will feature an innovation zonein which there will be different activities aimed at highlighting the need and difficulty of having protected systems and reliable communications in any economic sector. And, on the other hand, it will be developeda competition of startupsin which cybersecurity entrepreneurs will be connected with investors interested in accompanying them in their growth.
Recognition for the most disruptive
As the culmination of the entire fair event: the Industry Solutions Awards, a public recognition of technological initiatives and industrial entrepreneurs. In the categories of security, connectivity, customer solution, optimization, and intelligence, those solutions that transform industries through greater efficiency, sustainability, and connection with people will be distinguished. And, a special Game Changer of the Year award will be given to a pioneering industry entrepreneur or businessman who has been a key model for the promotion and implementation of technological solutions in vertical industries.
