Focus has just presented its first proposals to start the new theatrical season 2026/27. And it does so, leaving behind a season marked by an excellent public response and with proposals that have achieved applause from both the public and critics.
Next Friday, September 4, the complete presentation of the new season will take place, but, for now, we can already know some big names that will kick off the season such as Lolita Flores, José Sacristán, Lluís Homar, Juan Mayorga or Joel Joan, among others.
Big productions at Goya and Romea
The start of the season at the Teatre Goya will feature the return of one of the most acclaimed proposals of recent years. Lolita Flores returns from September 2 to 27 for the fourth consecutive season with Poncia, a reinterpretation of Bernarda Alba's character that reflects intimately on Adela's death and the silence that surrounds the house. Next, José Sacristán will take on the lead role in El hijo de la cómica (from September 2 to October 4), a theatrical and personal tribute to the figure of Fernando Fernán-Gómez articulated through memory and words.
This same stage will host two proposals that merge theatre, music and thought: on the one hand, Lluís Homar and the Brugalla & Stambolov Piano Duo will unite in El gran inquisidor (from October 1 to 11), a piece conceived as a sacramental auto based on the chapter of Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov with compositions by Bach and Messiaen; on the other hand, the historic company La Zaranda will present Todos los ángeles alzaron el vuelo (from October 15 to 25), a reflection on marginality and resistance from their characteristic humor.
The dialogue with classical and contemporary literature will have great weight in large-format productions. Sílvia Munt will direct Panorama des del pont by Arthur Miller (from October 16), a revision of one of the key texts of 20th-century theatre to question power relations, possession and desire. In this same vein, Juan Mayorga signs Palabra de perro (from October 28 to November 8), an adaptation of Cervantes' El coloquio de los perros that approaches literary tradition with a more critical and current perspective.
The final stretch of the year will feature Josep Maria Flotats, who will bring to the stage La promesa de l'alba (from November 14), an adaptation of Romain Gary's autobiographical masterpiece that speaks about the mother-child bond. For her part, Àngels Gonyalons will embody Oscar Wilde with the return of The Picture of Dorian Gray (from December 17), the piece premiered at Grec 2026 adapted and directed by Marc Rosich that integrates text and original music by Jordi Cornudella to commemorate the author's defense of his work against the criticism of the time.
Contemporary dramaturgy and musicals at La Villarroel and Condal
La Villarroel will maintain its commitment to local dramaturgy and contemporary reality. For this reason, the season will begin with the re-premiere of Primera llei de Newton (from September 2 to October 4), a piece that was also presented at Grec 2026 and is set in a high-complexity institute. The play questions the concept of meritocracy and the cracks in the educational system.
Morning Sun (from October 9) is a proposal directed by Pau Roca and featuring Miriam Iscla, Anna Güell and Raquel Ferri as performers, written by the American playwright Simon Stephens. The play takes its name from Edward Hopper's famous painting to tell the story of an ordinary woman's life in New York in the second half of the 20th century.
It is an intimate and poetic theatrical proposal, where three generations of women (mother, daughter, and granddaughter) share space to embark on a journey through memory, the passage of time, and invisible transformations.
From September 9 to 27 at La Villarroel, you can see 53 domingos, a proposal written and directed by Cesc Gay. It is one of the most acclaimed family comedies of recent years for understanding the cracks and functioning of relationships in today's society. The plot revolves around three siblings who meet to discuss a crucial decision: what to do with their 86-year-old father, who is beginning to show erratic and incomprehensible behavior.
With a cast made up of Julián López, Pepa Charro, Xavi Mira and Candela Serrat, the proposal invites reflection on the responsibility of care, the aging of parents and the fragility of blood ties.
From October 6, the Teatre Condal will host Bons i dolents, a new play written by Joel Joan. It is a dark and poignant comedy directed by Nelson Valente that starts from the premise "we are all good until it suits us not to be". The clash between economic needs, personal frustrations, and unconfessable desires explodes in a meeting between friends. The cast includes Joel Joan himself, Agnès Busquets, Oriol Casals, Ana Gago, and Nesa Vidaurrázaga.
For the Christmas period, the Condal will bring back for a third season El fil invisible (from December 23), the theatrical adaptation of Míriam Tirado's story, which has already become a phenomenon in family theater. The theater will also host the return of one of the great titles in the history of the genre: the musical Germans de sang (from February 12, 2027), which returns to the Barcelona billboard to tell the story of two twins separated at birth and marked by social difference and destiny.
These first confirmations are just a taste of what Focus has prepared for the new season. The full lineup will be announced next Friday, September 4, at 12 p.m. in its official presentation at the Teatre Goya. We will have to be very attentive to discover the entirety of a theatrical season that promises to fill the city's theaters once again.
