Five local music novelties that cannot be missing from your summer

A recommendation to improve your holiday music list with proximity pop music

august 02, 2021 - 02:01

There are promising young talents aiming high, an indie band venturing into cinema, and two of the city's most popular groups.

1- A group in a state of grace

El Petit de Cal Eril - Cap a tu

This guy pulls magical songs out of a hat every time he enters the studio. A new example of this is Cap a tu, a preview of the new work by Joan Pons, El Petit de Cal Eril, N.S.C.A.L.H, which will see the light coinciding with the return to work, at the beginning of September.

Pons and his team seem to follow in the wake of their last two works, with dreamy, precious songs that know how to find the right arrangements.

The musician from Guissona must be enjoyed while his state of grace lasts, because for now, he does not lower the bar while looking sideways at names like Mac Demarco or Sam Evian and adding his own harvest. Let's celebrate it while we wait for his next album with the premiere of this song, the second we can hear from the new album after Non tornerai, a piece in Italian that already promised continuity. And blessed be it.

2- The teenage pop revolution

Socunbohemio - Conte de primavera

An involuntary pop response to homemade urban music. There is nothing more underground than pop made in a teenager's room; it is in this intimacy where the artist expresses concerns, loves and heartbreaks, sorrows and joys. This movement is bedroom pop, one of the most interesting and prolific of recent years.

Socunbohemio has exactly this spirit: low fidelity but great songs. His appearance in 2020 was a breath of fresh air, with songs like Els nostres amants or the wonderful La cançó, one of the best melodic releases of last year. For this summer, Artur Viñas, the author's real name, returns with an accurate summer shot, though a spring homage, to the gardens that give us green and life. A song with echoes of the longed-for La Iaia.

3- The inexhaustible Mallorcan quarry

Maria Hein - Es teus ulls davant la mar

It is common to speak of an artist's universe without it being too interesting. This is not the case here. A native of Felantix, Mallorca,Maria Hein is the new talent arrived from the Balearic Islands, territory that never ceases to give us good musical news. If there is an exciting scene today, it is this one, with names like Maria Jaume, Jorra i Gomorra or Da Souza. Hein is the latest addition to the select group of new bands eager to join them, like the Manacor-based Reïna.

A pop singer-songwriter of sweet melodies and clean productions, she presents Es teus ulls davant la mar, the first single from what will be her debut LP, in autumn. Here there is a bit of everything, from Núria Graham to Maria del Mar Bonet: Mediterranean pop that comes with the endorsement of Ferran Palau, who has taken care of the production of her first album.

4- A movie made into a song

Doble Pletina - Esdrújulos epítetos

Each time there are fewer bands left in the pop universe with the personality of Doble Pletina, a group that several years ago decided to leave the easy song to search for the perfect one. These Barcelonians continue in this, whothey have spent the last year filming a fiction moviethat they themselves star in. It is calledStop, directed by Stanley Sunday and already available in cinemas... And to listen on platforms, because obviously they have taken care of the soundtrack.

In Esdrújulos epítetos, Doble Pletina return more naive and cinematic. A sonic sequence shot full of images and unsettling music that hooks you. One of those songs that doesn't need a chorus, but that gets into your head like a hammer blow.

5- The best anthems of Barcelona

Mujeres - Rock y amistad

Songs by normal people and for normal people. Women do not release new material if they don't have an anthem to offer the staff. Their new artifact isRock and friendship, where Madrid's Carolina Durante collaborate, and it's one of the best they've ever released: a song to the most common and, in turn, most memorable love. An ode to enthusiasm and pop ethics with the usual catchy choruses, a trademark of the house. In a pandemic contextthe songs of this trio from Barcelona are the best remedy and the worst diseaseyou cannot listen to this while maintaining social distance. It's impossible.
