FemmeUp wants to boost its female wellness products in Latin America

The Catalan startup was born in Juno House, the first women's social club that opened its doors in Barcelona to promote networking among female executives

FemmeUp is a company focused on improving female well-being with the commercialization of nutritional and natural supplements created in Catalan laboratories. The proposal was born in 2022, driven by Marcel Lewin, an expert in female health, and Jou López, with 17 years of experience in women's well-being. After two years of research, the founders felt the need to "devise a project that would allow attention to be paid to a social taboo such as women's libido."

The cradle of FemmeUp is Juno House, the first social club for women ---which opened its doors in Barcelona in 2021--- that has fostered networking among women. 60% of the business capital is female so that "the company develops conceptually in a feminine way." The co-founder highlights that several of the partners who have driven the company emerged from Juno House and that their collaboration has been a key factor in the investment of the Catalan startup.

FemmeUp has obtained 70,000 euros in funding since its foundation. The Catalan startup is manufacturing 180,000 tablets a year and expects to multiply them by 10 throughout 2023. Market demand in Latin America leads FemmeUp to bet on doubling its revenue figure by 2024. Currently, the company sells its products ---half online and the other half in pharmacies--- throughout Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, Argentina, Chile, and Panama.

In its beginnings, the emerging firm had been conceived exclusively as a digital project, but the censorship imposed by social networks on issues such as female libido harmed them in the commercialization of their products. "In the health field, women must be treated on equal terms with men," declares co-founder Jou López, pointing out the lack of sexual education in society.

Its products and services do not speak of pathologies, nor of curing diseases, but rather address the symptomatology prior to health problems caused by hormonal changes or the drop in libido as a health indicator. At FemmeUp, they address sleep problems, tiredness, fatigue, dryness, sleep disruption, lack of concentration, or menopausal symptoms with products and services.

López highlights that the positioning of their products on the Internet worked very well and allowed them to reach pharmacies. "FemmeUp as a health center, has had spectacular success. There are pharmacies that specialize in women's health corners and it is a very important advance," López emphasizes. "What we have taught women a lot is also to identify the origin of the problem and to establish measures," adds the co-founder of the emerging firm.

The startup offers its products, together with a follow-up and support service for clients, which includes a team of nutritionists, physiotherapists, sexologists, and gynecologists. "This is also a mission; to bring the population closer to sexologist therapy," López justifies. The company offers six products and three of them are based exclusively on female libido; capsules that solve 95% of its decline, food so that women who are breastfeeding can also consume the product, and, in addition, they offer a more stimulating version in drop format.
