Evolution of global investment in renewable energies

july 10, 2018 - 17:27

The Asia Pacific region continues to lead global investment in renewable energies, far ahead of the Americas and EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) regions, according to a report published by Bloomberg New Energy Finance (NEF) on the evolution of this sector in recent years.

Worldwide, investment in these types of energies increased by 3% last year, reaching 333.5 billion dollars. However, investment is still below the record figure reached in 2015, which was 360.3 billion dollars. In 2016, investment had fallen by 10%.

But if we analyze the data by world regions, the clear and growing leadership of Asia Pacific (APAC) countries in this field is observed. Last year, $187 billion was invested in clean energy in the APAC region, compared to $78 billion invested in the Americas and $69 billion invested in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

The following graphs show the evolution of investment in renewable energy in these three regions of the world. The first groups all the data and the second allows for a more detailed observation of the evolution in each of the regions.
