Endesa reinforces its commitment to Barcelona's energy infrastructure. The company will invest 62.37 million euros this year in 248 actions aimed at expanding, modernizing, and digitizing the city's electricity grid, a figure that almost doubles that of six years ago and exceeds last year's by 15.5%.

The objective is to prepare the grid for a growing energy demand in a context marked by the electrification of the economy, the expansion of electric mobility, and the incorporation of new renewable energy sources. The announcement is part of the coordinated work plan with the Barcelona City Council and includes maintenance, grid reinforcement, new connections, and digitalization actions distributed across the city's ten districts.

The bulk of the investment will be concentrated in the medium voltage grid, where Endesa will deploy 34.6 kilometers of new lines and renovate 502 transformation centers. In the low voltage grid, the closest to final consumers, 134 actions will be carried out with an investment of 3.52 million euros.

Overall, the plan foresees the installation of more than 41 kilometers of new power lines and includes 31 actions linked to the Endreça Plan promoted by the city council.

The actions will be distributed across the city's ten districts, with a special focus on Sant Martí, Nou Barris, Ciutat Vella, and Sants-Montjuïc. However, to execute them, the construction schedule will be adapted to the city's tourist flows. During the summer, work with the greatest impact is avoided in areas such as Ciutat Vella or El Born, where the presence of visitors is higher.

One of the ongoing actions is located on Calle de la Guàrdia Urbana, in Montjuïc, where work is being done to reinforce the capacity of the surrounding electricity grid. The work will continue until mid-July.

Digitalization is another key aspect of the plan. Endesa will continue to deploy remote control systems in transformation centers to monitor the grid in real time and act remotely in case of incidents. According to the company's forecasts, Barcelona will close the year with 2,867 remotely controlled installations, equivalent to nearly 42% of the total transformation centers in the city.

The company maintains that these actions should contribute to improving service quality and reducing response times to possible breakdowns, especially during periods of higher electricity demand.
