El Tenoriu returns with Sílvia Abril and Andreu Buenafuente, a more contemporary and hilarious version of this classic in verse that makes us have a good time with a big smile on our faces. Carles Sans is the director of this proposal, as original as it is surprising. It was clear that with two comedy geniuses like Sílvia Abril and Andreu Buenafuente, the story would be different and full of good humor. But the result is much better than we imagined!
Although the plot and story of this classic piece are followed, the dramaturgy by Israel Solà (the director of La Calòrica) has managed to give the proposal a very original and fresh touch. The result? The story of Don Juan, in verse and with the classic characters, but with many "asides" where comments are included, the fourth wall is broken, and a bit of autofiction is introduced when talking about Sílvia and Andreu's marriage.
A surprising and very funny play
El Tenoriu is a surprising proposal because, every now and then, you get an unexpected gag full of comedy. In addition, Zorrilla's work always goes down well, and this mix of classic theater and fresh comedy works perfectly.
Although, sometimes, the verse "gets tangled" (as Andreu rightly says), on this occasion it is perfectly followed, without losing the thread and with a tireless rhythm that keeps you 100% attentive to what is happening on stage.
Without a doubt, El Tenoriu is a comedy worth seeing. It is original, surprising, different, and very funny. Furthermore, it is always pleasant to return to the classic stories that make up our theater, even if it is with a more acidic and current perspective.
