The Institut de Cultura de Barcelona once again joins forces with the Sants-Montjuic District, the Poble-sec and Paral·lel Merchants Association, the network of bars and restaurants Menja't and Eat Street Barcelona, among other agents, to create a meeting point between culture and gastronomy within the framework of the Grec Festival. From June 29 to July 23, the second edition of El Greg al Sec will take place, a gastronomic event that celebrates the culinary diversity of the Poble-sec neighborhood in a pop up format and at street level in the iconic Plaça Margarida Xirgu.
Four different restaurants will offer each week a short selection of their most celebrated dishes at prices ranging between five and nine euros per tapa. Fourteen establishments make up the lineup, among which Casa Xica, El Carro Gros, Palo Cortao, Sasha Bar, Veg It and Zaza-Cuina i Vi repeat.
This year's edition incorporates a wide representation of cuisines from around the world, such as the Italian dishes from Malevo, the bodega tradition in the form of tapas from Azoka Taberna, the Asian flavors of Tan's Lunchbox, the Mexican callejeo from Tacos 99, the taberneo from Denassus, the stuffed sandwiches from La Porca, and the veggie and vegetarian proposal from Modoki Funky Roll.
The sweet section of Poble-sec also has representation, with artisan ice creams from Turin and its master ice cream maker Antonio Carozzi, as well as the Blue Truffle pastry shop will be present to sweeten every bite. On the other hand, to refresh the atmosphere, the Campari group offers from its Bar Aperol a small selection of classic cocktails such as Aperol Spritz, Bulldog gin & tonics or Cinzano vermouth, among others.
El Grec al Sec is freely accessible. Its doors will open from Wednesday to Saturday in Plaça Margarida Xirgu. On Wednesdays and Thursdays it opens from 6:30 p.m. until midnight, and on Fridays and Saturdays the public can access from 6:30 p.m. until one in the morning. Within the framework of the official program of the Grec Festival, attendees will enjoy performances by Manolo Alcántara, the conceptual and scenic staging by Insectotròpics, as well as various shows that combine plastic and performing arts, led by El Gran Gorila.
Seeking diversity in the selection of participating restaurants and prioritizing the experience of those registered in pop up formats, Joe Littenberg, director of El Grec al Sec, highlights the quality, initiative, versatility, and uniqueness of all participants, an assessment that the technical secretariat of Economic Promotion of Sants-Montjuic supports.
El Grec al Sec is an event included in the Menja't Les Estacions program, led by the Menja't Montjuïc association under the umbrella of Impulsem El Què Fas 2021, and has the support of the Barcelona City Council, as well as institutional support from Barcelona Activa to generate responsible and sustainable tourism in the Poble-sec neighborhood.
