DeepUll adds a new milestone. The medical technology company has closed a 50 million euro round to develop its diagnostic solution, capable of identifying the cause of potential sepsis in one hour. This is a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body's immune system reacts extremely to an infection, damaging its own tissues and organs.

The operation represents the starting point for carrying out the clinical validation process and speeding up the regulatory approval process for the new diagnostic system, which is expected to reduce the mortality of this condition and limit antibiotic resistance. "This investment marks a crucial step for DeepUll," says CEO Jordi Carrera. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), 11 million sepsis-related deaths occurred in 2020, representing 20% of all deaths worldwide.

The financing round has been led by the Valencian manager Columbus Venture Partners and the international investment firms Panakès Partners and Mérieux Equity Partners. Asabys Partners, Aliath Bioventures, We Venture Capital, Innvierte-CDTI, Axis-ICO, Gesamo and CGHealth Ventures have also participated in the round. Two years ago, DeepUll had raised 17 million euros in a round led by Werfen and Asabys.

DeepUll, based in the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), was founded in 2020 by two serial entrepreneurs, Jordi Carrera and Rafel Bru, with the aim of creating affordable early sepsis diagnostic solutions that do not require cultures. Carrera and Bru were the founders of Stat-Dx, a startup that was sold to Qiagen in 2018.
