The Italian company for healthcare technology and clinical diagnostic solutions Dedalus has finally decided to locate its new R&D hub in digital health in the historic modernist complex of the Hospital de Sant Pau, in the facilities of the Barcelona Health Hub. The company's objective is to launch a high-performance center that will allow it to drive the development of components for its health digitalization and electronic health records platform, analytics, and artificial intelligence. The hub will also develop disruptive and innovative projects for clients not only in Catalonia but will serve the entire Iberia region, Europe, and the rest of the world.
In a statement, Dedalus confirmed this Monday a project that it announced last July, when it expressed its interest in establishing a global development center in Barcelona, because it is "a city that has made advances in digital health one of the growth focuses of its local economy and has become a European benchmark in this sector," as explained by the general director of Dedalus Iberia, Marisa Felipe, to The New Barcelona Post.
According to Dedalus, the Barcelona hub is part of its growth strategy in Iberia and its desire to play "a more active role in the Catalan innovation ecosystem to accompany healthcare and life sciences organizations in their digital and technological transformation process to improve the experience of patients and professionals." In this sense, the company considers it ideal to forge "an alliance" with Barcelona Health Hub, as it is an association that promotes innovation in digital health and its transfer to the sector, linking startups, healthcare organizations, corporations, and investors.
"Barcelona is a city that has digital health as a focus of growth for its local economy, which positions it as a great source of specialized talent, our most valuable asset. We are very happy and proud to establish our first headquarters in Catalonia in a European and global digital health hub like Barcelona Health Hub, closely linked to our purpose of adding value to the healthcare ecosystem with innovative solutions based on an open technological stack and developing projects of global impact together with our clients in Catalonia," highlights Marisa Felipe.
The multinational has been operating in the Catalan market for more than 20 years and has Roche Diagnostics, Parc Taulí, Mútua Terrassa, Sant Joan de Déu, and Fundació Puigvert hospitals, as well as the insurer MC Mutual, as clients. "Thanks to the new office located in the Sant Pau Modernist Enclosure, Dedalus will fulfill its objective of deploying a co-creation space to foster innovation and the exchange of clinical and technological knowledge among teams, clients, partners; in addition to being a focus for attracting talent based on a collaborative and flexible environment, which responds to the hybrid work model implemented by the company," the group points out.
"It is a great opportunity for the Barcelona Health Hub ecosystem to be able to count on a reference company, with experience collaborating with large health systems in the development of digital solutions with our community," added Eva Rosell, general director of Barcelona Health Hub.
Dedalus has 450 professionals in Spain, with an innovation development center for its platforms in Malaga, Seville, Madrid, and Leon. The multinational's turnover reached 770 million in 2021, of which about 25 million would correspond to Spain.
