Decowood invoices six million in 2022 and prepares to land in Belgium

The company based in La Roca del Vallès wants to boost the design and customized production of wooden furniture for stores, restaurants, and offices

Decowood, a manufacturer of wooden furniture and decoration, closed 2022 with sales of almost six million euros, a 20% increase compared to the previous year. The company, based in La Roca del Vallès, is preparing to land in Belgium, making it its second foreign market, after expanding five years ago to France, a country that represents 35% of global turnover. Also on the pending list is Italy, where it will arrive between the end of this year and the beginning of next.

Founded in 2015, the company has been opening up to new products while maintaining its focus on the use of sustainable wood, mainly from Galician forests, and local design and production. It started with the sale of wooden boxes, whether for storage or decoration, and then came headboards, one of its best-selling products. They also incorporated paintings, frames and bedside tables, until last year they began to launch collections that included other products such as coffee or dining tables and shelves. The average ticket is between 160 euros and 180 euros, with products ranging from 30 euros (wooden boxes) to 400 euros (dining tables).

Almost all the products they sell (90%) are manufactured in their plant in La Roca, subcontracting the rest to local artisans expert in certain materials or processes. Next to the factory are Decowood's offices and warehouse. When they reach a considerable sales volume in the countries where they want to expand, by 2024 or 2025, they will study opening a new logistics distribution point in France, without ceasing to produce in the Vallès city. The furniture and decoration they produce are sold through their own website, which grew 65% in Spain in 2022. They are also found in other e-commerce sites such as Maisons du Monde, Mano a Mano, Amazon, Privalia or Miravia, channels that allow them to reach new customers, especially with short-term campaigns.

Decowood's management team is led by Ion Vidaurreta, who previously managed Sweet Messages, a company dedicated to sending personalized packages of chocolates and sweets as gifts. This company merged with Decowood in 2021, so Vidaurreta became the CEO of both. At Sweet Messages, Josep Talavera and Fernando Jiménez, co-founders of Decowood, invested. Talavera is also co-founder and CEO of Mundimoto, specialized in the online buying and selling of second-hand motorcycles. Josep Talavera and Fernando Jiménez also created the sock brand Fox & Socks.

For 2023, Decowood foresees revenue growth of at least between 15% and 20%, depending on how the economic situation evolves. With profits since the first year of activity, they finance themselves with their own resources and debt, ruling out a short-term round that would allow third parties to enter and betting on organic growth. The workforce stands at 37 employees, with occasional hirings during production peaks such as sales.

Beyond expansion into Belgium and Italy, one of the business areas the company wants to boost this year is the personalized design and production of furniture for stores, restaurants, and offices, after having worked with clients such as the decoration stores Muy Mucho and the clothing store Bymo, the Galán bar (Barcelona), or the offices of the fashion brand Brownie. In 2022, this vertical represented 20% of sales, and they plan to start looking for more clients in 2023.
