After a complicated period, the traffic of the Port of Barcelona continues to reflect the recovery of its hinterland's economy and maintains the upward trend initiated at the end of 2020. In this sense, during the first five months of this year, total traffic has amounted to 27,347,944 tons, a figure that represents a year-on-year increase of 15.2%.

More positive are the container traffic figures, with a total of 1,505,303 until May, an increase of 30% compared to last year. They are also positive when compared to May 2019, with a growth of 4%, surpassing pre-pandemic figures. Likewise, export containers have grown by 21% during the first five months of the year; import containers, by 11%, while full containers in transit experience an increase of 57% compared to the same period in 2020.

The Port is registering positive figures in all traffic segments, except bulk liquids, which reflect the decrease in natural gas and gasoline, and passengers. The latter will change its trend after the recovery of cruise activity in the Port of Barcelona with the arrival of the MSC Grandiosa in the city last Saturday.
