Conesa passes the baton to Calvet in the presidency of the Port of Barcelona

The former Minister of Territory and Sustainability will replace the current president, the first in the history of the port institution. Conesa thus closes a three-year term marked by the COVID crisis and the progress she has achieved in key issues for the infrastructure, such as railway access.

With the change of Government in the Generalitat, the Port of Barcelona also replaces its current president, Mercè Conesa, who will be relieved by the former Minister of Territory and Sustainability, Damià Calvet. The transfer was formalized this Thursday at the headquarters of the Port Authority, with the participation of those involved, the Vice President of the Government, Jordi Puigneró, and the president of Puertos del Estado, Francisco Toledo.

Conesa has been the first president of the Port of Barcelona, an institution she has led since 2018, appointed, precisely, by Calvet. It has not been an easy time, as Conesa recalled in her farewell, after having faced a cyberattack and, especially, the impact of the crisis caused by the pandemic. The outgoing president has committed to continuing to digitize and decarbonize the Port's operations in the new mandate, axes that must ensure that the infrastructure is resilient to unexpected situations like those it has experienced.

Taking over, Calvet thanked Conesa for the work done between the Port and the Government during these three years. The future president has pointed to innovation and sustainability as guiding lines of his mandate, continuing the projects promoted by Conesa and addressing pending tasks, such as railway accesses and the Hermitage project, which have advanced, but still need to be resolved.

As a final note and professional anecdote, Conesa highlighted that both Puigneró and Calvet worked in her municipal government when she was the mayor of Sant Cugat. "I cannot leave the Port in better hands," she concluded. And she gave them homework: to continue forging alliances to strengthen the infrastructure's positioning and advance in gender equality.
