The Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) have already found their private partner for the metropolitan affordable rental housing operator. Neinor and Cevasa have obtained the best score to build 4,500 subsidized housing units, surpassing the offer from the developer Visoren. Rubau and the union of Oaktree, Sdin Residencial, and Sogeviso are other companies that participated in the process but did not reach the final phase.
Neinor and Cevasa will take 50% of Habitatge Metròpolis Barcelona, after contributing almost 58 million euros. The rest of the capital will be equally distributed between the city council and the AMB, reaching a total of 103 million euros. A nine-member board of directors will be in charge of the company's governance. Four directors will be chosen by public administrations; another four by the private partner, and a ninth will be chosen by mutual agreement.
With this investment of 103 million, the metropolitan operator will generate affordable housing for between 11,000 and 12,000 people. It will build half of the homes in Barcelona city and the other half in the rest of the municipalities in the metropolitan area. In a first phase, 640 homes for 1,600 people will be built in La Marina del Prat Vermell (Barcelona), La Sagrera (Barcelona), Casernes de Sant Andreu (Barcelona), Saló Central (Sant Boi de Llobregat), Turó del Sastre (Montgat) and La Catalana (Sant Adrià del Besòs). Other municipalities where homes will be built include Cornellà de Llobregat, Molins de Rei, Sant Andreu de la Barca, Viladecans, Castelldefels, and Sant Vicenç dels Horts.
During the next month, Neinor and Cevasa will have to submit the necessary documentation to formalize the award, which will culminate in the capital increase of the company, until now only controlled by the City Council and the AMB, thus becoming a mixed company. If they do not do so, the necessary documentation will be requested from Visoren.
