Catalan digital culture is present again at 4YFN

The Department of Culture, through the Catalan Institute of Cultural Companies (ICEC) and the Directorate General of Innovation and Digital Culture, disseminates the business projects of 14 Catalan digital culture startups during the celebration of the 4YFN program, within the framework of the Mobile World Congress (MWC)

Startup companies in the digital culture ecosystem are increasingly numerous in Catalonia. Proof of this is that, once again, they will be one of the great protagonists of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) and its 4YFN startup acceleration program.

Cultural startups represent 15% of the emerging companies in the Catalan entrepreneurial ecosystem and, in the last 5 years, the number of technological projects has increased by more than 82%. Of the total, 19% of the new entrepreneurial professionals who promote an innovative and disruptive idea are women.

In addition, in the last year and a half, Catalan cultural companies have obtained a total of 7 million euros in financial loans, thanks to collaboration agreements between the Department of Culture and the Catalan Institute of Finance. This collaboration aims to facilitate access to financing through two lines: loans for assets and working capital and participating loans.

In the current edition of the 4YFN program, which will take place until March 3, a total of 14 Catalan cultural startups will participate in the event. They will do so hand in hand with the Department of Culture, through the Catalan Institute of Cultural Companies (ICEC) and the General Directorate of Innovation and Digital Culture.

To contribute to the development of some of these projects, the Department of Culture has financed more than 50 emerging companies since 2015, for a value of 5 million euros.

Professional activities

Catalan digital culture startups will also be the protagonists of various professional activities at the fair. Specifically, on Thursday, March 3, a pitching session has been organized where new business models in the digital cultural market will be discussed, and a conference where it will be debated how Catalonia has become a leader in attracting talent and creating video games.

The companies Antidote, Aulart, OffBeat, Unison and WindowSight will present their projects in the pitching session, moderated by innovation expert Antonella Broglia, which will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. These companies have obtained a Participatory Culture Loan, the financial aid that the Department of Culture launched seven years ago to help create startups in the field of digital culture.

After this pitching session, the Association of Video Game Developers and Publishers (Devicat) organizes a panel with Alexandra Samper Martínez (Tecnocampus - UPF), Oscar Sahun (GameBCN) and Pasqual Batalla (Socialpoint) where they will discuss the talent currently existing in Catalonia and the wide variety of training offered to young people.
