Casa Tarradellas launches a unique 13,000 square meter solar park

Coinciding with World Environment Day, Casa Tarradellas has inaugurated a unique solar park built next to the logistics center and robotic warehouse it has in Gurb (Barcelona). It is striking that the park occupies a plot located in the industrial estate where the different factories of the food group are located and where in recent years it has not stopped building new buildings, such as the aforementioned warehouse, new plants for the production of its popular fresh pizzas and even a flour mill. Now, instead of building a new building on this land, the family business has opted to cover it with photovoltaic panels, with a total area of 13,657 square meters.

"This project responds to Casa Tarradellas' firm commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility," highlights Casa Tarradellas, which, with this investment, increases the solar surface it has installed to 100,000 square meters, with which it generates renewable energy for self-consumption. Until now, all solar panels were located on the roofs and facades of the production centers.

In addition to generating its own green energy, Casa Tarradellas assures that since 2021 all the energy it consumes comes 100% from certified renewable energy sources. "Casa Tarradellas works to optimize and reduce its energy consumption, gain energy autonomy and cover its needs through green energies, respectful of the environment, with the aim of being an energetically responsible company," explains the group, which began installing solar panels in 2004.

Casa Tarradellas leads the fresh pizza market in Spain and in 2020, coinciding with the pandemic, it broke its revenue record by exceeding the one billion euro barrier. Specifically, the company chaired by Josep Terradellas earned 1,062 million, 8% more. Net profit also grew by 8%, to 26.8 million. The Catalan company, which in addition to selling under its own brand manufactures for Mercadona, opted to internationalize at the end of 2019 when it bought 60% of the European meat group Herta from Nestlé, which has a turnover of more than 600 million and operates in countries such as France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom and Ireland.
