The life of the protagonist of Quan el destí conspira a favor teu (Europa Ediciones), Laura, takes a turn when she starts working at a law firm. A cold and distant boss will entrust her with matters that she will have to deal with outside of hours. This precarious work situation will gradually turn into a detective career, leading her into a world of greed.
This is the plot of the second novel by Maria Brugués Mitjans Prunera (Gavà, 1964), which has the iconic Permanyer passage as one of its main settings. The work environment chosen by Brugués Mitjans for Laura is not accidental. The Barcelona writer graduated in Law from the University of Barcelona in 1987, in addition to having a master's degree in Law of Catalonia from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She is a lawyer for the Generalitat and is currently the secretary of the Board of Taxes of Catalonia.
In fact, the legal world was the first source of inspiration for Brugués Mitjans. As a member of the Generalitat's Legal Corps, she is co-author of several books specialized in legal topics, aimed at preparing the syllabi for access to the Legal Corps and the Superior Corps of the Generalitat.
In 2015, Brugués Mitjans ventured into the world of fiction with El ventall finès (Ediciones 3i4). "The mastery of language, therefore, has been the central axis of her professional career, but the step into fiction novel has allowed her to break the rigid frameworks of legal language where she was corseted, to be able to release emotions and experiences," says her current publisher, Europa Ediciones.
