Bon Preu's total investment to launch the logistics center in Montblanc (Tarragona) will reach 204 million euros in the medium term, as announced by the family company this Thursday. It will be the second facility of its kind for the Catalan company, which expects to complete the processing of construction works for two warehouses in this municipality by the end of this year.

The urbanization works, with a duration of two years, could begin next April. In the short term, Bon Preu expects to employ 300 people and invest 97.8 million euros in the complex, while in the next ten years the company estimates creating 900 jobs and exceeding 200 million in investment. The mayor of Montblanc, Josep Andreu, has welcomed the initiative, assuring that it can be a boost to fight against depopulation in the Conca de Barberà region.

Bon Preu's future logistics center in Montblanc plans for two warehouses, one for dry products at room temperature and another for fresh products. The company's operations director, Joan Sabartés, indicated that construction would last two years from its start, scheduled for 2023.

In a first phase, the dry goods warehouse will occupy 26,500 square meters, while the fresh goods warehouse will be 12,600 square meters. However, the forecast is to expand the surface area by 55,900 square meters and 38,800 square meters, respectively. In the future, the company intends to build another reverse logistics warehouse designed for the return of recyclable material from its establishments, thus reaching the budgeted figure of 204 million euros, reports ACN.

The company estimates that the first phase of construction will employ about 1,350 people, in addition to the 300 direct jobs that the warehouses will require as soon as they are operational. The company expects to triple its workforce over the next decade and have 900 workers with different profiles.

"An optimal location"

Among the reasons that have led the company to choose Montblanc to install the future logistics center, the president and CEO of Bon Preu, Joan Font, highlighted that the municipality is an "optimal" location to improve logistics both in the Ponent area and in the Terres de l'Ebre. "It is a strategic investment of enormous relevance for Bon Preu because it guarantees the present and future capacity to continue growing in the medium and long term, allows us to double our capacity and be more efficient and closer to supply establishments in Ponent and the south of the country," Font stressed.

This will be Bon Preu's second logistics city, joining the one in Hostalets de Balenyà (Osona) and with which the company intends to consolidate its commercial expansion in Catalonia. The group has more than 22,900 jobs and a turnover of 1,781.9 million euros in its last fiscal year.
