Barcelona is a city with a long musical tradition and a cultural scene that has given rise, over the years, to projects with international reach. One of the most distinctive examples is In-Edit, the music documentary festival founded in Barcelona that has developed a pioneering proposition on the international scene: a meeting point between music, cinema and culture with few equivalents anywhere in the world.
This will be the central theme of the next session of Moments Estel·lars, the series organized by The New Barcelona Post, with the special collaboration of In-Edit. The session will bring together Uri Altell, owner and general director of the festival; Astrid Rousse, director of In-Edit; Toni Querol, artistic director of the festival; and Marc Gili, lead singer and frontman of Dorian. The conversation will be moderated by journalist Toni Aira and will offer an overview of In-Edit’s history, from its beginnings in Barcelona to its current international dimension, while also exploring the relationship between music, cinema and culture.
Each participant will offer a different perspective on the festival. Uri Altell will look back at the origins of In-Edit, from the initial idea to its international expansion; Astrid Rousse will explain what the festival is today, its structure, programming and relationship with audiences and artists; and Toni Querol will delve into In-Edit’s artistic vision, its selection process and the criteria behind a programme that combines major names in music with new discoveries.
There will also be a fourth perspective: that of Marc Gili, lead singer and frontman of Dorian, a band founded in Barcelona more than twenty years ago and a leading name in indie and electronic pop. Throughout its career, Dorian has developed a close relationship with the city and its cultural scene. Gili, a regular In-Edit attendee, will bring this dual perspective to the conversation, offering his views on the links between music, cinema and culture. His participation in Moments Estel·lars comes just a few days before Dorian performs at Sala Apolo on October 30 to present Futuros imposibles, the band’s latest album.
Organized with the collaboration of CASA SEAT, Must Media Group and Barcelona Global, the session will take place on Monday, October 19 at 6:30 p.m. at CASA SEAT. Those wishing to attend and ask questions to the speakers will need to reserve a free ticket.
As usual, the conversation will be recorded in videopodcast format for The New Barcelona Post and will subsequently be available through the magazine’s YouTube and Spotify channels. The session will offer an inside look at the history of a project that was born in Barcelona with a very specific ambition—to make the music documentary the focus of a festival—and has since expanded internationally without losing its connection to the city.
How was In-Edit born? What explains how an initiative that emerged in Barcelona went on to achieve an international dimension? How is the festival’s programme built today? What role does the music documentary play in the relationship between cinema and music? And how does In-Edit contribute to Barcelona’s cultural ecosystem? These and other questions will shape the next session of Moments Estel·lars.
