Barcelona will host in 2023 the largest free trade zone event in the Americas. This is a meeting that will have representation from 600 free trade zones from 25 countries where more than 13,000 companies are located. The summit, called the Ibero-American Free Trade Zone Conference, will be held from November 7 to 9, 2023, coinciding with the Smart City Expo World Congress, organized by Fira de Barcelona.

The choice of the Catalan capital to host this event was decided this week during the meeting of the General Assembly of the Association of Free Trade Zones of the Americas (AZFA), which took place in the Dominican Republic, with the participation of the special delegate of the State in the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona (CZFB), Pere Navarro, and the general director of the CZFB, Blanca Sorigué.

The chosen venue for the free trade zone meeting will be DFactory Barcelona, the complex dedicated to industry 4.0 and promoted by the CZFB. "The Ibero-American Free Trade Zone Conference is the most important event for the Ibero-American Free Trade Zone sector, where operators, users, governmental entities, investors, consultants and industry suppliers gather to discuss the current situation, advances, innovations, best practices, trends and future challenges," explain from the Consorci. Barcelona already hosted the annual AZFA congress in 2019, coinciding with the celebration of SIL.

Blanca Sorigué, who has been re-elected as a member of the AZFA, and Pere Navarro presented at the congress in the Dominican Republic the "success model" developed by the entity and based on innovation, technology, process automation and sustainability. During his speech, Navarro presented the main projects they are developing, such as DFactory Barcelona, which currently already has 30 companies installed and 500 people working, and is becoming the main industry 4.0 hub in southern Europe with activity related to robotics, 3D printing, AI, sensors, advanced manufacturing, blockchain, IoT...

The CZFB has also explained its plans with the Logistics 4.0 Incubator, which will begin its activity at the beginning of 2023, and the 3D Incubator, the first 3D printing company incubator in Europe, which has managed to exceed 100 incubated companies a year and a half earlier than initially planned.
