In its increasingly accelerated return to normality, Barcelona Airport continues to strengthen its connections with Asia. After recovering the connection with Beijing, El Prat adds a new destination. This was announced by the Consul General of China in Barcelona, Zhu Jingyang, who reported that Shenzhen Airlines will offer direct flights to the Chinese technological capital starting this August.
According to Jingyang via Twitter, Shenzhen Airlines, belonging to the Air China group, will have three direct flights a week between Barcelona and Shenzhen. The Secretary of Business and Competitiveness of the Generalitat, Albert Castellanos, replied to him through the same social network, positively evaluating the announcement: "We will be much better connected with one of China's great industrial and innovation hubs."
The new connection planned with Shenzhen joins the three weekly frequencies that Air China will operate between the Catalan capital and Beijing starting on June 1. One is lost compared to before COVID and the connection with Shanghai and Hong Kong still needs to be recovered. These first connections will have to serve to continue recovering an Asian visitor that has been lost with the pandemic, after last year El Prat Airport was left with 24% fewer international travelers compared to 2019.
