La Vall d'Hebron will be the setting from which Barcelona wants to accelerate the transition towards the mobility of the future. It will be precisely at this strategic point, frequented by both residents and drivers in transit, where the first public ultra-fast charging station for electric vehicles will be installed, on Germans Desvalls street, 2. A pioneering installation both in the city and throughout the country, which will come into operation at the end of 2026, promoted by Endolla Barcelona and managed by BSM.
With a power of up to 480 kW, the new "electrolinera" —a service station designed for electric vehicles— will allow recharging up to 400 kilometers of autonomy in just 15 minutes. The installation will have 900 square meters and 12 simultaneous charging points, which will be able to serve more than 300 vehicles a day, following a stop & go model, designed for drivers to stop, charge, and resume their journey quickly and comfortably.
This new station represents, for Mayor Jaume Collboni, a "qualitative leap and a paradigm shift" that reaffirms Barcelona as a "leading city in charging infrastructure and sustainable mobility." In fact, the new station not only stands out for its speed and capacity, but also for its commitment to sustainability, as the installation will be 100% powered by renewable energy, thanks to a photovoltaic canopy and a battery storage system that will optimize the use of renewable energy.
"This impulse also means the improvement of the possibilities for the industry of the city and the metropolitan area, in the automotive plants of the Zona Franca, and for the families who work there and depend on it," added the mayor. With an investment of more than 2 million euros, construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2026, with the aim of the station coming into operation at the end of that same year.
The station has been designed to offer maximum comfort to users, with rest areas, Wi-Fi connection, vending points, adapted bathrooms, and surveillance systems. Likewise, access to the charging points will be simple and intuitive, as users will only need to scan the QR code of the point with the SMOU application and connect the hose to the vehicle to start charging. This application offers monthly subscription rates of €4.20 per car.
With this new installation, Barcelona strengthens its Endolla Barcelona network for electric vehicles, which already has more than 1,041 charging points and registers an average of 18,000 monthly charges. The incorporation of this new ultra-fast station not only seeks to expand the network's capacity but also to significantly reduce the time dedicated to charging, facilitating vehicle rotation.
Despite advances and the expansion of the charging point network, the presence of electric cars in Catalonia remains a minority. In 2024, the Catalan territory exceeded 100,000 registered electrified vehicles, including plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles. However, the average age of cars circulating on Catalan roads is over 14 years, according to 2024 data published by the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC). Environmental labels reflect this reality: only 8% of vehicles have an ECO or 0 emissions label.
Given this situation, this new charging point aims to prepare the city to respond to an increasing demand for charging, making it easier for more citizens to adopt electric vehicles. For this reason, Collboni has argued that this new station, with greater power, simultaneous capacity for several vehicles, and user-focused services, "will contribute to accelerating the transition towards more sustainable mobility."
