The organization of the 37th edition of the America's Cup, to be held in Barcelona in 2024, requires the implementation of a complex mechanism that will involve the contracting of all types of services to ensure the event is a success and consolidates itself as one of the most important sporting spectacles in the world. Emirates Team New Zealand, the Defender of the Cup and rights holder, will channel all this organizational effort through the company America's Cup Event Barcelona (ACE Barcelona), which will coordinate the various public administrations and private entities involved in the event and select the necessary supplier companies.

One of the first contracts has been signed with the law firm Andersen, which will be the exclusive legal advisor for the America's Cup after winning a competitive process in which other major national and international law firms had also participated. It should be noted that the Barcelona edition of the America's Cup has been declared an event of exceptional public interest, and its organization is expected to involve more than 2,500 people from all over the world, which will require extensive advice on tax, labor, and immigration matters.

Andersen's lawyers are already working on various commercial and corporate issues, such as the incorporation of the companies involved in the organization, and on regulatory aspects in order to contribute to the definition of the legislative framework applicable to the event. Andersen will also provide support to the members of the various teams that have begun to move to Barcelona and will advise the organization on multiple aspects such as intellectual property, cybersecurity, and transfer pricing.

"The 37th America's Cup in Barcelona is going to be one of the best in recent history. But organizing a major global event coupled with all the legal and contractual requirements is an endless process but of vital importance to ensure the success of the event. From ACE Barcelona S.L. we are delighted to be able to partner with Andersen to help with all legal matters in Barcelona and Spain," explains the CEO of ACE and leader of the Emirates Team New Zealand team, Grant Dalton. Also part of the management team of this company is Aurora Catà, former president of Barcelona Global, the entity that facilitated the arrival of this important global event to the Catalan capital.

According to Andersen, the awarding of this contract is the result "of the collective effort of a multidisciplinary team, led by the Barcelona office in which professionals from the firm throughout Spain will participate." The managing partners of Andersen Iberia, José Vicente Morote and Iñigo Rodríguez-Sastre, emphasize the "numerous legal implications" involved in "the development of an event of such magnitude" and highlight that their professionals will be decisive in ensuring "that the competition is held with all guarantees." With offices in Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, and Seville, Andersen has more than 350 professionals in Spain, a market in which in the last five years it has tripled its business volume and almost doubled its workforce.

It is estimated that the 2024 America's Cup will generate an economic impact of more than one billion euros for Barcelona and will also result in a significant increase in tourism, as the competition will be the largest international showcase for the city since the Olympic Games.
