The technology company Amadeus has announced the acquisition of Voxel, specializing in electronic invoicing and business to business payment solutions for travel agencies, hotels, and other agents in the sector. With this acquisition, valued at nearly 113 million euros, the multinational will strengthen payment methods in the travel sector, while Voxel sees the operation as an opportunity to accelerate its growth.

The acquisition of Voxel, which will involve the incorporation of its 200 employees into Amadeus, will increase the variety of payment services offered by the company to travel agents and will allow for progress in the automation of invoices and their management by hotels, tour operators, and other players in the travel and tourism sector.

In the same vein, this operation will allow for increased automation in business travel, in a process that goes from bookings to payments, including expense management. It thus aims to generate a more fluid and agile experience for Amadeus customers, a company founded in 1987 by Iberia, Air France, Lufthansa, and SAS, and which now operates in more than 190 markets with 19,000 employees.

From its headquarters in Barcelona, Voxel manages more than 100 million transactions annually through its platform
"For the travel experience to be better, it is crucial that we guarantee agile, integrated, and even invisible payments,"has defended the president of Travel of Amadeus, Decius Valmorbida. From Voxel, its CEO, Ángel Garrido, has described this operation as a unique opportunity: "The combination of our technology, teams, the strong alignment of our business cultures and our connections will undoubtedly bring us one step closer to more agile and simpler travel payments."

The acquisition will also complement Amadeus' payment business, Outpayce, as it will allow it to improve its current product line for travel agencies and its expansion in the hotel sector. The CEO of Outpayce, David Doctor, has highlighted that the mission of Amadeus' payment business is to develop an integrated payment ecosystem that travel companies can access, and to provide access to fintech innovations. "And the acquisition of Voxel allows us to do both," he guaranteed.

Amadeus has bought Voxel, founded in 1998, at a time when it has a client portfolio distributed in a hundred countries and which includes more than 50,000 hotels, 3,000 restaurants and another 1,000 operators in the tourism and travel sector. From its headquarters in Barcelona, the company manages more than 100 million transactions annually through its platform, and in 2023 it generated 18 million euros in revenue.
