Aldi has concentrated half of its 2023 openings in Catalonia in Barcelona, where it now has a total of 93 establishments. The supermarket chain has opened eight stores throughout this year in the autonomous community, four of which have been located in the Catalan capital and the rest in Masnou, Vilanova i la Geltrú, Calella, and Deltebre.
Of the four new supermarkets in Barcelona, two have opened their doors this very week. One is on Fabra i Puig street, in Nou Barris, while another is on Gran Via, between Paseo de Gràcia and Pau Claris, a very central area with few supermarket options. In addition to these last two premises, Aldi has set up shop on Escorial street, in Gràcia, and on Riera Alta street, in Ciutat Vella.
The German-origin chain now has 64 stores throughout the province of Barcelona, 18 of which are in the capital. This figure translates into more than 67,000 square meters of surface area and a staff of about 200 employees.
According to the company, it has a portfolio of 730,000 customers from Barcelona and its metropolitan area who do their regular shopping in its establishments. In them, Aldi offers a selection of 2,000 products, 80% of which are of national origin and almost 90% are private label.
In Spain as a whole, where it arrived in 2002, Aldi has over 430 supermarkets and a staff of 7,000 employees. The chain has made a total of ten openings this December. In addition to those in Barcelona, it has also opened stores in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid), Albox (Almería), Granada, Lanzarote, and Menorca. Internationally, it is also present in Belgium, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, and Portugal.
