Aena will build a photovoltaic solar plant at Barcelona Airport, and another at Reus Airport. The public company will invest 32.9 million euros in installing and commissioning the two facilities, which will allow progress in energy sustainability and renewable self-consumption from both airports.
Specifically, Barcelona will have a solar plant with an installed capacity of 12.5 peak megawatts (MWp). The installation, which will be located within the airport grounds, will generate production equivalent to the consumption of around 5,790 homes.
For its part, Reus Airport will have a total installed capacity of 15 MWp. The plant's production will be equivalent to the consumption of nearly 7,600 homes, and will also be located within the airport infrastructure grounds.
The contract for the construction of both solar plants has been awarded to the Temporary Union of Companies (UTE) formed by Acciona Construcción and Tecmo Instalaciones Obras y Servicios, and includes the drafting of the project, execution of the work, commissioning, and one year of maintenance for both facilities.
The installation of these solar plants responds to Aena's commitment to energy sustainability, based on clean and efficient technologies, in order to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. In this regard, the public company advocates advancing towards the energy self-sufficiency of its facilities, from renewable sources and the purchase of energy from renewable sources.
