Last December it was Nike who opened a store of nearly 2,000 square meters on Passeig de Gràcia. Now, its archrival, Adidas, has made a move by announcing the upcoming opening of a 2,300 square meter establishment in the heart of the Catalan capital, directly opposite the smaller premises it has occupied since 2015 at number 3 of the avenue.

The new Adidas flagship will become one of the largest stores of the sports clothing and footwear brand in Spain and will open with the aim of being "a reference establishment in Europe" for the firm, as explained by Juan Pablo Abión, Real Estate Director of Adidas in Southern Europe. The opening is scheduled for the first half of 2022.

The premises rented by Adidas ---with the advice of aRetail--- are located on the ground floor of the Palau Pasqual i Pons, an emblematic modernist building owned by the Catalana Occidente group, which has been undergoing a comprehensive rehabilitation since 2017. Located between Ronda Sant Pere and Casp street and designed by the architect Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia, the property was inaugurated in 1890 and with the reform Catalana Occidente wants to turn it "into one of the best office and business spaces in the city." The Catalan insurer has invested 35 million euros in the rehabilitation, which will culminate in early 2022.

The Palau Pasqual i Pons has an area of 9,300 square meters and with the remodeling will have open-plan floors, equipped with the latest technology and high energy efficiency. The project, in addition to enabling a large commercial space on the ground floor that Adidas will occupy, has also allowed the construction of a 90-space parking lot.  "The reform of the Palau Pasqual i Pons demonstrates the commitment of Grupo Catalana Occidente to the conservation of its real estate heritage and to its long-term management strategy and vision," says the Director of Real Estate of Grupo Catalana Occidente, Óscar Andel.

A year ago, it emerged that Apple will be the main tenant of the renovated building, where it has rented offices of 6,000 square meters that will be directly opposite its store on Passeig de Gràcia with Plaça Catalunya.
