Data centers seem like dark spaces isolated from the outside world, with corridors full of thousands of cables and racks. However, despite their apparent isolation from society, it is precisely these centers that guarantee global connectivity, storing and processing millions of digital data. In recent years, Barcelona and its metropolitan area are emerging as a strategic geographical point for these data centers. So much so that the technology company Adam has decided to redouble its commitment to Catalonia with a new data center, which will be the third that the company has in the Catalan capital and its surroundings.

Specifically, the new facility will be located in the Parc de l'Alba del Sincrotró de Cerdanyola del Vallès, next to the powerful synchrotron ---which will undergo a powerful transformation thanks to the public injection of more than 900 million euros---, and near the two plants that the technology company already has in this Barcelona municipality. With the new facility, the company will have a total of three centers in Catalonia, in addition to a fourth in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid).

This new plant will have 7,500 square meters of surface area and an installed power of 8 megawatts with Tier III classification ---that is, it has fully redundant energy systems, to guarantee uninterrupted power, even in the event of possible power outages---. Likewise, to increase its autonomy and commit to sustainability, the new center will use photovoltaic panels.

The facility will also be built under efficiency criteria, with advanced cooling systems and intelligent monitoring of energy consumption. All in all, for the general director of the Catalan company, José Mejías, this new data center represents a new commitment by Adam "to innovation, sustainability and comprehensive support in all operations."

Once the building license for construction has been obtained, the company has begun earthmoving work to start its construction. The forecast is that the center can begin to be erected this year, with the aim of being fully operational by 2027.

The company, founded in 1989 in Barcelona, already has two other data centers in Cerdanyola del Vallès, in addition to another center in Madrid (Alcalá de Henares). With this network, Adam will reach a total installed power of 14 megawatts distributed over 14,5000 square meters of facilities. Since last year, moreover, the company is part of CVC DIF, the digital division of the international fund CVC, a union through which it wants to begin a new stage of growth and expansion, even expanding to new markets.

The announcement of this new data center coincides with the strategy of the Govern, which in May of this year decided to promote a roadmap to encourage the implementation of more data centers in Catalonia, considering them "crucial infrastructures" for the future of the Catalan economy. In just one year, in fact, these centers have doubled their power in Barcelona, reaching an installed power of 66 megawatts, almost double the 34 megawatts of just one year ago.
