To position Barcelona and Catalonia as an innovative environment where real-life applications resulting from 5G technology can be validated and adopted. This is the objective with which Mobile World Capital and 5G Barcelona, a public-private initiative, are working. They have now signed an agreement with MásMóvil, i2CAT, and the Barcelona Health Hub Association to launch a laboratory at the Hospital de Sant Pau where pilots and proof-of-concept tests will be developed to promote the use of 5G in the health sector.
The new Barcelona Health Hub 5G Design is born as a space focused on the co-creation of eHealth solutions that allow for the improvement of medical and care services and to turn Barcelona into an international reference in digital health. "We believe that 5G can have a real impact on healthcare systems," explains Luis Badrinas, CEO of Barcelona Health Hub. José Jiménez, innovation director of the MásMóvil operator, believes that with this laboratory "quality telemedicine services accessible to everyone" can be developed. For his part, Eduard Martín, CEO of 5G Barcelona, emphasizes that "in this moment of health crisis, it is more important than ever to promote initiatives that allow for faster progress."
The Barcelona Health Hub 5G Design will be located in the Sant Manel pavilion, in the modernist complex of Sant Pau, and will be a meeting point for companies, scientists, and entities that revolve around 5G technology applied to the world of health.
