The president of the Port of Barcelona, Lluís Salvadó, handed over the keys to the offices of the World Ocean Council to its president and CEO, Paul Holthus, this Tuesday. The entity's new headquarters are located in the North building of the World Trade Center.
"It is an opportunity for the entire port community and, for that very reason, I encourage the more than five hundred companies that represent it to take advantage of it to promote innovative and environmentally responsible initiatives in their field," Salvadó said.
The World Ocean Council is the main international business organization whose objective is to foster the maritime economy, addressing transversal issues affecting the oceans, especially in terms of environmental sustainability. The entity serves to bring together leaders from all maritime industries, such as shipping, fishing, oil and gas, aquaculture, tourism, renewable energies, and ports.
For the port, the installation of the organization's headquarters in the Port of Barcelona marks "a great milestone in promoting the city of Barcelona as a reference hub in the blue economy." The choice of the Catalan capital as the global headquarters of the entity also means periodically holding its global blue economy events, such as the Sustainable Ocean Summit or the Global BlueFin.
