Valérie Belin, between reality and fiction

In Valérie Belin's photographs, the image is never entirely innocent. And it is precisely in this ambiguity—between reality, artifice, and representation—that the work of the French photographer, protagonist of the new exhibition at the Museu Picasso, is constructed. Trained in art and philosophy, Belin began her photographic career in the mid-1980s. Since then, she has developed a body of work focused on the limits of perception and the way images shape our idea of reality. At the Museu Picasso, some thirty works can be seen, covering different moments of her career. There are series such as Venice II (1997), where mirrors almost dissolve the images; Black-Eyed Susan (2010), in which female faces merge with nature and flowers; or Cover Girls (2026), with close-ups of models altered by superimposed elements.
