U2 will return to Barcelona in 2027. And they will do so with a large-format show in Montjuïc. Live Nation today confirmed the first European dates of their new world tour, dubbed Carnaval De Luz presents: The Greatest Show On Earth Tour, which will bring Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. back to outdoor stages.
The band will offer a double header at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on May 13 and 15, 2027. General tickets will go on sale on November 13 at 10:00 AM through the official websites. For registered members of the band's official fan club, the presale will start on U2.com on Monday, November 9, at the same time.
Carnaval De Luz, U2's new album
The tour announcement comes with important news: the band is preparing for the release of their new studio album, Carnaval De Luz, scheduled for November 13, 2026.
As a preview of the album, U2 today presented the single The Greatest Show On Earth, a track co-written with their long-time collaborator Brian Eno. The song tells the story of two lovers struggling to maintain faith in each other within a context of maximum uncertainty.
The release of this song is accompanied by a music video directed by Dutch filmmaker and photographer Anton Corbijn, a key figure in the construction of U2's visual identity since the days of The Joshua Tree. It was filmed in the California desert and presents a satire in which the band itself appears characterized as the leaders of a religious sect.
A concert with cutting-edge technology
This new open-air tour represents U2's return to stadiums for the first time since December 2019, when they closed The Joshua Tree Tour at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Nearly three million spectators worldwide attended their date with this legendary band.
Since then, the Irish group's live activity has been marked by their 40-concert residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas. That series of performances served as a testing laboratory for what they will now bring to the concert in our city.

The intention is to combine the monumental scale of large venues with moments of closeness and intimacy through a repertoire that will review their five decades of career since their beginnings in the late seventies.
In a joint statement, Bono, The Edge, Adam, and Larry have reflected on the challenge posed by the title chosen for the tour:
“The Greatest Show on Earth? That's quite a statement of intent. It's a challenge, both for ourselves and for anyone, to try to make it the best night of everyone's life who is there. A bit of a show, a bit of a shaman, an explosion of color, unleashed guitars, basses and drums, and songs to hold onto. Because, if people are going to go, we will certainly live up to it.”
The tour announcement comes shortly after the band celebrated the 50th anniversary of the group's formation on September 25. U2 offered an intimate midday concert for students and teachers at their former school in Dublin, Mount Temple Comprehensive (where the four founding members first met in 1976), followed by a surprise performance on Grafton Street in the Irish capital.

The 2027 tour will officially kick off on April 26 in Stockholm and will feature the alternative rock band Wolf Alice as a guest artist. Afterwards, it will pass through venues such as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Paris, Berlin, Milan or Lisbon before its arrival in Barcelona in May.
U2 has already performed many times at the Olympic Stadium during the Zoo TV (1993), PopMart (1997), 360° Tour (2009 and 2010) and The Joshua Tree Tour (2017) tours. Now, in 2027 we will have the enormous pleasure of enjoying live and direct one of the most influential rock bands of recent decades. Let Barcelona tremble!
