BOUVETØYA es una de las propuestas del Teatre Lliure

Another week begins on the theatrical billboard of Barcelona and that can only mean one thing: new premieres will fill the city's venues! And it is that, weekly, we can enjoy new theatrical proposals from the hand of great creators who make us dream, reflect, laugh or shiver in our seats.

And this week... starts strong! Joel Joan premieres a comedy, but so does Julio Manrique at the Lliure; on the other hand, Míriam Iscla returns to the stage and the poetry of Miguel Hernández or Lorca will make us emotional again. The local venues also have a lot to say and we will enjoy critical works about politics and the current situation.

So, you know: make room in your agenda because, in the coming days, the theater awaits you!

Bouvetøya at Espai Lliure

From October 1 to 25, 2026

The Espai Lliure in Montjuïc hosts Bouvetøya (The need for an island), a production that is part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Teatre Lliure. Written by eight hands by Ivan Benet, Cristina Genebat, Julio Manrique and Sergi Pompermayer, and directed by Manrique himself, the play is a dystopia initially conceived during the 2020 lockdown that is recovered and rewritten six years later to vindicate the essential function of the performing arts.

The plot follows the seemingly absurd journey of a group of friends to the most remote island on the planet, a piece of ice floating in the middle of nowhere. Starring a choral cast made up of Mireia Aixalà, Damien Bazin, Ivan Benet, Cristina Genebat, Xavier Ricart, Marc Rodríguez and Andrew Tarbet, this journey transforms into a tale about loyalty, friendship and love for theater that seeks to connect with the audience through a message of hope for the future.

Good and Bad at Teatre Condal

From October 6 to November 15, 2026

Teatre Condal presents Good and Bad, a new comedy written by Joel Joan and directed by Nelson Valente. The story begins with a dinner between two couples of friends: Ricard, a man in the midst of a mid-life crisis who is obsessed with reggaeton and drugs, and Jesús, his best friend to whom he owes a large sum of money. The accumulated tensions between them and their partners, Clàudia and Marta, finally explode when Ricard arrives with the bombshell news that he will be a father again with another woman.

With a cast led by Joel Joan, Agnès Busquets, Oriol Casals, Nesa Vidaurrázaga and Ana Gago, the play explains how very personal interests can alter anyone's morality. Under the premise that we are all good until it suits us not to be, the show offers a portrait of the limits of friendship, everyday hypocrisies, and couple relationships.

Morning Sun at La Villarroel

From October 9 to November 8, 2026

La Villarroel hosts the premiere of Morning Sun, a text by British playwright Simon Stephens (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time), translated by Adriana Nadal and under the direction of Pau Roca. It is an intimate, delicate, and emotional portrait of a woman's life in a constantly transforming New York. The plot delves into the passage of time, memory, and the inevitable experience of becoming invisible to society as one ages, all framed within the pulse of a metropolis where old bars change owners and lovers and friends come and go.

Starring a cast made up of Míriam Iscla, Anna Güell, and Raquel Ferri, the play shows the trajectory of three generations of women, grandmother, mother, and daughter, to explain the complexity of blood ties, shared joys, and silenced sorrows. A proposal about beginnings and endings, the persistence of love, and the search for identity amidst the noise of the big city.

Lo de Jaume I at El Maldà

From October 8 to November 8, 2026

El Maldà hosts Lo de Jaume I, a musical comedy by the company Al Cel. The plot places the viewer before the arrival of the new president of the Generalitat, Lídia Obiols, an extreme right-wing politician determined to recover Catalan institutions and restore the "purity of Catalan identity." Her plan takes an unusual turn when the Museum of Catalan History finds the mummified phallus of Jaume I, ready to engender a new lineage of Catalan kings.

Freely based on the work Don Jaume el Conqueridor by Serafí Pitarra, the production is constructed as a rowdy and satirical farce about current politics and the rise of extremist discourses. The proposal combines musical rhythm with absurd humor to offer a poignant critique of power dynamics and identity.

Vientos del pueblo at Teatre del Raval

From October 7 to November 15, 2026

The Teatre del Raval presents Vientos del pueblo, a multidisciplinary show created and directed by Pep Tosar based on the life and work of Miguel Hernández. The piece pays homage to the figure of the poet from Orihuela, who in only 31 years of life traced an essential literary journey conditioned by the years of the Republic, the Civil War, and the subsequent repression and imprisonment under Francoism.

With dramaturgy by Pep Tosar and Evelyn Arévalo, the proposal combines theater, flamenco singing, live music, and contemporary dance. The cast includes the performance of Tosar and Arévalo themselves, the singing of Carles Dénia (also musical director), the dancing of Andrés Corchero, and the accompaniment of Marc López on guitar and Èlia Bastida on violin.

Lorca's indómitas at Teatre Romea

From October 7 to 11, 2026

Also this week, the Teatre Romea premieres Lorca's indómitas, the new proposal from the company Atalaya. Instead of bringing a specific dramatic text by Federico García Lorca to the stage, the show revisits the universe of the Grenadian poet focusing on the figure of the women who star in his works, and highlights the strength and central role that the author gave them throughout his production.

With dramaturgy and direction by Juana Casado and Ricardo Iniesta, the show analyzes these female characters from a contemporary perspective, observing which of these voices remain relevant in the present. The production features the interpretation of Lidia Mauduit, Bea Ortega, and Paula Rubio.

A small distortion at Dau al Sec

From October 8 to 18, 2026

Dau al Sec programs A small distortion, a monologue written and directed by Enric Nolla Gual and performed by Sergi Torrecilla. The play narrates the story of a young successful executive who, while preparing to deliver the celebration speech for a very lucrative financial operation for his company, becomes a victim of his own narcissistic and alienated vision of reality.

The show relies on an austere staging where empty space and stripped-down words take absolute prominence. The protagonist undertakes an inner journey that will reveal the darkness of the economic system and the fragility of the human condition.
