The works on Via Laietana continue to advance and are entering their final stretch. The avenue continues to complete phases to culminate its renovation, and now opens the next one: it's the turn of Jaume I street.

During its renovation, Jaume I will be cut off to traffic from Monday, May 5, until mid-June. At the same time, Princesa street reopens, which had been closed since April 24 to redevelop the sidewalk of the street at its confluence with Via Laietana.

The intervention on Jaume I street, which will allow pedestrian access, will serve to expand the scope of Plaza de l'Àngel, as the street will be at the same level. The action aims to favor the flow of pedestrians concentrated at this point, with the entrance to the Jaume I metro station, of the L4.

In addition, retractable security bollards will be installed, with the aim of limiting vehicle access in case security and emergency forces deem it necessary, such as due to a large concentration of people in the square or for security reasons.

In turn, Plaza de l'Àngel is finalizing its paving, which maintains the style of the Princesa side also in the urban furniture and trees, with the aim of giving a homogeneous image on both sides of Via Laietana.

One of the medieval houses that have been unearthed with the works.

The works on the avenue continue their path with the aim of finishing this summer, despite surprises such as the discovery of medieval remains. Five houses probably dating from the 14th century emerged in March under the roadway of Fusteria street, and allow tracing how Barcelona was transformed from the construction of these houses until their demolition in 1909, with the subsequent construction of Via Laietana.

The first phase of the works finished in July, and gave way to an upper part of the avenue with wide sidewalks that quickly filled with activity. The reform is not only changing the appearance of Via Laietana, but also its subsoil, as it has included the modernization of its historical facilities.
