The figures of Leo Messi, Copito de Nieve, and activist Greta Thunberg are some of the stars of the new era of the Barcelona Wax Museum. As advanced by The New Barcelona Post, the museum has reopened its doors this December, after a comprehensive renovation that involved an investment of six million euros and lasted nine months.
The renovated Wax Museum has given great importance to characters who have brought the Barcelona brand to the world, such as Leo Messi, Rosalía, Pau Gasol, Marc Márquez, and chefs like Joan Roca and Jordi Cruz. A figure of Ferran Adrià will also arrive soon. One of the most spectacular rooms is dedicated to music, with figures of David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, and The Beatles. Among the new residents of the museum are also Billie Eilish, Úrsula Corberó, Serena Williams, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Stephen Hawking, Adele, Taylor Swift, Obama, and Merkel.
Einstein, Stephen Hawking, Marie Curie, Santiago Ramón i Cajal, Cervantes, Shakespeare, Beethoven, Chopin, Pau Casals, Dalí, Picasso, Miró, Goya, Frida Kahlo, Mussolini, Hitler, Nelson Mandela, Gandhi, and Mother Teresa of Calcutta are other characters represented.
Audiovisual technology to enjoy a great experience
The great novelty of the museum's new stage is the incorporation of technology to enhance the visitor experience and satisfaction. Thus, virtually, visitors can ascend more than 120 meters high in an elevator where screens will allow them to see, with an eagle's eye view, La Rambla with a 360º vision. They can also dive into a submarine to observe the ocean floor and see how it has degenerated, and travel to the universe from a space station where they can observe Earth.
"The museum is born from a clear commitment to the city and the space that surrounds it and aims to help recover La Rambla as a space for family leisure and culture for the population of Barcelona and be an attraction for those who visit us," says Ángel Díaz, business director of the project and president of ALS.
The creative director of the new museum is Toni Cruz, former member of La Trinca and former president of the audiovisual production group Gestmusic Endemol. "We want to present the 21st century Wax Museum, with an innovative and modern concept, where technology is used to create a space with interactive experiences and a selfie-friendly philosophy that guarantees the greatest and most memorable experience for all visitors," says Cruz.
Tickets are priced at 20 euros if purchased online and 22 euros at the box office. The museum is open Monday to Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (last access).
