"A hospital permanently needs to be updated in all its aspects, as it is a living entity." This is how the delegated trustee and general director of the Puigvert Foundation, Ramon Massaguer, conceives it, leading a center in constant remodeling. Within this permanent update, the hospital is opening a package of improvements that includes the construction of three new operating rooms, the comprehensive renovation of a hospitalization floor, the improvement of its software, and the opening of a street within its facilities, among other projects of the foundation.

Thus, the monographic hospital in urology, nephrology, andrology, and reproductive medicine foresees a transversal investment package that affects multiple areas of the center. "Improvements must not stop; they must be planned in a sequenced and continuous manner," insists Massaguer in conversation with The New Barcelona Post. To carry out these reforms, the Institut Català de Finances (ICF) and BBVA have equally signed a financing of 4.8 million euros, framed within a history of support from both entities to the center, located a stone's throw from the Hospital de Sant Pau.

Among these future investments, Massaguer highlights the importance of improving the software and information systems linked to patients' clinical records. Its update aims to facilitate the consultation of patient data from another hospital, in order to share information about their clinical history to improve their care.

However, the most visible investment the hospital will undertake in the short term will be the comprehensive renovation of one of its hospitalization floors. This total remodeling of the floor, which will involve reconfiguring it completely, will be accompanied by another relevant project: the construction of the new three operating rooms for major outpatient surgery. These new operating rooms will allow "to increase Puigvert's surgical capacity," now focused on complex surgery. The new operating rooms will require an investment of between six and seven million euros, in a project that will be linked in its first phases to the operation closed with the ICF and BBVA. The hospital's forecast is to commission and have an executive project during this year and carry out the works in 2025.

Among the hospital's future plans is also the opening of an interior perimeter road that encircles the foundation. The project aims to facilitate mobility, including the arrival at the Emergency Room by ambulance, which currently involves crossing the interior of the adjacent hospital grounds. This road "will give Puigvert autonomous mobility without complicating Sant Pau's mobility," Massaguer highlighted.

The foundation had already received support from ICF and BBVA through various projects over the last two decades. Among these projects is the one known as Edifici Triangle, inaugurated in 2011 with 12,000 square meters. This building is part of the 24,000 square meter complex made up of three interconnected constructions, including the clinic inaugurated in 1967.

The reform is part of a context in which the healthcare sector stands out for its potential and capacity for innovation, and in which the ICF "wants to be by its side to make projects that require long-term financing a reality," according to the CEO of ICF, Vanessa Servera. Along the same lines, the regional director of BBVA in Catalunya, Francisco Pla, advocated for "channeling financing towards society," in order to advance towards economic development and in the transition towards a more sustainable and inclusive reality.
