Recognition of the talent of publicist Toni Segarra (Barcelona, May 15, 1962), creator of campaigns that are already part of the Spanish imagination such as ¿Te gusta conducir? or Be water, my friend, for BMW; the Conversaciones sobre el futuro, for Banco Sabadell; or Redecora tu vida and Bienvenido a la República Independiente de tu casa, for Ikea. This Thursday, at the proposal of the Faculty of Communication and Arts, Nebrija University invested the creative as doctor honoris causa in the degree hall of this academic institution's campus in Madrid for his "international prestige, for his great talent and for his extensive professional experience."
Segarra is the only Spaniard on the list of the world's 100 top creative minds published by the British magazine Shots, was considered the best Spanish creative of the 20th century by the Spanish magazine Anuncios in 2000, and has been recognized by his own professional colleagues, according to El Publicista, as "the ideal creative," in addition to being chosen in 2016 by Forbes magazine as one of the 25 most influential people in Spain.
A graduate in Hispanic philology, Segarra began working in the advertising sector in a small studio, Vinizius, which he founded with his brother in the 80s. After passing through the agencies Vizeversa and Contrapunto, in 1991 he was one of the founders of Casadevall Pedreño SPR, although he stayed for a short time at this firm and moved to Delvico Bates, an agency he turned into the most awarded in the country for several consecutive years. In 1996, he decided to create his own company, the acclaimed SCPF, together with Luis Cuesta, Félix Fernández de Castro and Ignasi Puig. In 2019, SCPF was integrated into Wunderman Thompson.
Segarra has won some of the best awards at national and international advertising festivals, including the Grand Prix at the Cannes Festival and the Grand Prix at the New York Festival.
Through SCPF, he has worked for major brands such as BMW, Tous, Ikea, Vueling, Evax, San Miguel, and Banco Sabadell, a financial institution for which he has been a creative since 2010. That year, the slogan The bank for the best companies. And yours, was launched, and Pep Guardiola was signed as the face of the entity. Later came the series of ads Conversations about the future and other campaigns starring famous faces such as Rafael Nadal, James Rhodes, Leticia Dolera, Luz Casal, Loquillo, Fernando Trueba, Àngels Barceló, José Coronado, Carme Ruscalleda, Carles Puyol, and John Carlin. In 2016, a documentary about the Catalan publicist's career titled Toni Segarra: A guy who writes ads was made.
