The awarding of three gastronomic stores and the remaining restaurant have closed the gastronomic offer with which the Port Olímpic will receive its visitors when its transformation culminates. The Balcó Gastronòmic of the port will bring together 11 restaurants and three establishments in 24,000 square meters that aspire to offer a diverse proposal that responds to different public profiles in a unique and quality space by the sea. All of this, with a budget of 20 million euros, and with a calendar with a key final date: the celebration of the America's Cup this summer.
A proposal of Catalan cuisine with Asian contributions from Grup Aventura has been selected for the last restaurant that remained to be awarded. It will open in the Balcó Gastronòmic with the name Vraba, combining gastronomic quality with sustainable practices.
The restaurant selected by Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (B:SM), which promotes the transformation of the Port Olímpic, thus joins those already awarded in July, when the selection of this last establishment was pending. With the choice of Vraba, the configuration of the Balcó Gastronòmic's offer is finalized, which will feature proposals ranging from Catalan to international cuisine, including the essential seafood cuisine.
Specifically, the restaurants that will be part of the renovated Port Olímpic's offer with proposals of Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine will be the historic La Barca del Salamanca and La Fonda del Port Olímpic. For their part, the establishments of world cuisines will include Sagardi, El Tribut and Platea by Hermanos Torres. El Cangrejo Loco and Taberna Gallega de Marcos will offer seafood cuisine and blue gastronomy, while Super Local will champion flexitarian cuisine; Platets, appetizers, and Casa Carmen will open as a canteen.
Gastronomic stores
The gastronomic offer of the Port Olímpic will be complemented by three stores: the healthy food establishment Faborit, the ice cream parlor Esferic and the empanada brand Las Muns. Their opening will allow the Balcó Gastronòmic to provide service outside of usual meal times and respond to diverse customer profiles.
The three gastronomic stores will be located in separate 85-square-meter premises on the lower level of the Balcó Gastronòmic, which will connect to the upper level via stairs and elevators. The three premises will simultaneously act as separating elements for the various restaurants, although they will do so with glass walls that will seek to generate a fluid dialogue between the various spaces of the renovated port.
The awarding of the remaining premises has developed in parallel with the progress of the works on the Balcó Gastronòmic, which will be located in the Moll de Gregal of the Port Olímpic. The works have already erected the upper structures where four of the restaurants will be located, crowned by photovoltaic pergolas that will generate enough energy to cover the consumption of the port and nearby B:SM spaces, such as the Barcelona Zoo. The opening of the port towards Platja de la Nova Icària is also envisioned, which will provide access to a new Port Olímpic. Its transformation, which will prioritize the blue economy, is advancing against the clock with a clear objective: to complete it by the end of summer, when the port will host the women's and youth competitions of the America's Cup.
