The reorganization of port activity in the southern area of the port is progressing. The board of directors has awarded Sacyr and José Antonio Romero Polo construction companies the first works of the future Catalunya dock, where all container activity is to be concentrated, along with the North Prat Dock, both located in El Prat de Llobregat.
For an amount of more than 72 million euros, the works will consist of the construction of the embankment of the new dock's enclosures. Here, materials from the dredging of the port basins, the navigation channel, and other ongoing works, such as the Adosado dock or the new berths of the Energía dock, will be deposited.
The breakwater will delimit an enclosure of almost 45 hectares between the South dike and the Prat basin, with a depth of up to 16 meters. Dredged materials with a capacity of almost 6.3 million cubic meters will be deposited, which will allow anticipating esplanades for the future Catalunya dock and avoiding the dumping of waste.
The Port of Barcelona initiated this tender a year ago. The forecast is to be able to start the works this summer, and they will have an execution period of 27 months.
