The Port approves the concession to the Hermitage

The museum project will entail an investment of 50 million euros and is still conditioned on the development of the collaboration agreement with the Liceu and the approval of the Barcelona City Council

The Port of Barcelona's Board of Directors approved this Wednesday the concession to develop the Hermitage project, which aims to collaborate with the Gran Teatre del Liceu. The institution went ahead with the award despite the municipal government asking it to delay the decision to fully understand the new approach and generate sufficient consensus.

The concession is conditioned on a joint project between Hermitage and Liceu being presented within two months. Likewise, the approval of an agreement between the Port and the City Council is also pending.

To facilitate this, the port infrastructure has initiated conversations with the Liceu to reach a collaboration agreement to consolidate a new cultural space in the Nova Bocana. The alliance would provide the Liceu with complementary spaces it would need to develop artistic, social, and training activities, as other major international opera houses have.

The Hermitage project will attract private investment of about 50 million euros and will generate 377 new jobs, according to a study by the Municipal Institute of Culture.
