After celebrating La Rambla's main festival this weekend, this Monday the new personalities and organizations that have won the Ramblista d'Honor awards, created by the Amics de la Rambla association to distinguish those who contribute to improving the prestige of the Catalan capital, were announced. In the 2022 edition, the award winners have been the Pompeia bookstore, the Maritime Museum of Barcelona, and the architect Juli Capella.
The board of directors of Amics de la Rambla wanted to award the Pompeia Bookstore, in the year of its centenary, the Ramblista d'Honor award "in recognition of its long history, its connection with the neighborhood and its relevant role in the dissemination of culture in Ciutat Vella." Founded in 1922 on Cardenal Casañas street, its small shop has seen three generations supply books and stationery items to the residents and merchants of the Gòtic and La Rambla.
On the other hand, the award jury has selected the Maritime Museum of Barcelona as Ramblista d'Honor, valuing "its fundamental role in the dissemination of maritime culture in Barcelona and its connection and generosity with the neighborhood entities." It also wanted to award Juli Capella for "his professional career, his mastery and his critical commitment to the city." The jury was made up of representatives of civil society such as the president of Amics de la Rambla, Fermín Villar, the president of the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, Joan Oliveras Bagués; the president of Interprofit, Roser Tiana, and journalists such as Enric Nogueras, Ana Pantaleoni, Enric Sierra, Sergi Doria, Elena Freixa, Sergi Vicente, Iosu de la Torre, Ramon Pellicer, Jordi Fernández, Álex Sàlmon, Oriol Nolis and Sergi Saborit, also director of The New Barcelona Post.
Amics de la Rambla created the Ramblista d'Honor awards in 1961 with the aim of distinguishing people, entities, institutions or companies that had contributed with their activity to improving the prestige of the city's most emblematic thoroughfare. A few years ago, the association of merchants and residents of the promenade reoriented the objective of the award and broadened the focus, rewarding those personalities and organizations that have worked to promote the prestige of the city.
The awards ceremony will take place next October 24 at 6 p.m. in the Saló de Cent in Barcelona. It will be presided over by a representation of the municipal government and the president of Amics de La Rambla, Fermín Villar.
