SantéVet, a French health insurance company for pets, has chosen Barcelona to centralize the management of digital services for the entire group in Europe. For the development of this area, it plans to reinforce its staff with 70 professionals by 2024.
Part of the new hires, about 30 people, will join the current staff of 20 professionals in the coming months who work in the office in the Catalan capital, located on Avinguda de la Catedral. The digital center has started operating with the incorporation of computer engineer Domingo Nofre, as head of the technology department (Chief Technical Officer), a position he previously held in companies such as Wefox and eDreams Odigeo. Projects will be carried out in coordination with the company's central area in Lyon.
To complete the team, SantéVet is looking for digital professionals (product owners, scrum masters, engineering leads,...), but also commercial advisors and digital marketing specialists; one of the reasons why it has chosen Barcelona, "to be close to talent," the company states.
The boost to business in Spain —where it was established in 2017— aims to reach 100,000 new insured clients in the next two years, to consolidate it as the second market after France, and ahead of Germany. SantéVet's client is mainly a family with pets that wants to control their budget, but also "people who, as a result of COVID and thanks to teleworking, have been able to fulfill their dream of having pets and want to protect them as best as possible," add the aforementioned sources.
The technological and digitalization project will "democratize pet care for the benefit of pet owners and veterinarians," by improving pet health insurance solutions that are renewed annually and that cover illnesses, accidents, and prevention, such as internal or external deworming, vaccines, pipettes, or microchip identification, with reimbursement of up to 90% of expenses.
SantéVet, specialized in providing pet owners with innovative and consumer-centric services, offers in Spain a range of health insurance for dogs and cats that can be expanded based on demand, given that in France it also insures rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, and even parrots.
Focused in Spain on policies for dogs and cats, the firm does not rule out extending insurance to other types of animalsThe company's growth plan ---which belongs to the La Compagnie des Animaux group--- has materialized after to receive an injection of 150 million from its majority shareholder Columna Capital, which wants to accelerate its expansion by boosting its services in Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands and Austriaand become in 2026 "the undisputed leader in the European animal health insurance market with more than one million insured animals," according to sources from the insurer. The company expects to have 300,000 insured clients and 100 million euros in turnover by 2022.
The insurer, founded in 2003 by Jérôme Salord, has about 300 employees at its headquarters in Lyon, and offices in Lille, Frankfurt and Barcelona. The firm will create 500 new jobs internationally by 2026.
