The Sala Luz de Gas hosts this Tuesday, May 9, the ninth edition of La Nit del Talent, organized by the Impulsa Talentum Foundation, and which is consolidated as one of the reference solidarity events with entrepreneurs in Catalonia. This year, the work of Dr. Jaume Mora, scientific director of the Oncology and Hematology area and director of the developmental tumor laboratory at the Hospital de Sant Joan de Déu, will be recognized for his "decisive contribution" to childhood cancer research.
Mora will receive the Talent Award Social Talent 2023 for having "managed to lay the foundations for the treatment of many children" admitted to this reference hospital in Barcelona. This award distinguishes the most talented people in the entrepreneurial community and, this year, the person in charge of presenting it will be the businessman and collector Tatxo Benet, honorary award for Patronage 2022.
In a recent interview published by The New Barcelona Post, Dr. Mora explained that the objective of the Sant Joan de Déu Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona is "to cure 85% of all childhood cancers in the next 10 years." This pioneering center, inaugurated in 2022, responds to the need to differentiate adult cancer research from the therapies needed to fight childhood cancers. "Childhood cancer requires its own research and specific researchers. Researchers of aging cancer are very prominent, world-renowned oncologists, but they do not provide us with the necessary solutions for our patients. Specific research is needed, special dedication for these tumors," Mora explained.
La Nit del Talent will allocate all proceeds to the Anita Charitable Association, dedicated to helping children and adolescents with cancer. This entity has been raising funds since 2014 to research, together with the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, childhood germ cell tumors and finances innovative programs within the pediatric palliative care unit.
This solidarity day will feature performances, monologues, and live music for Barcelona's entrepreneurial community. The gala will be presented by Bibiana Ballbè and will include the participation of well-known figures from civil society, such as Asha Miró. Among the confirmed artists are Hotel Cochambre, Predicador JJ Bolton –a group led by entrepreneur Josep Coll who has dedicated their entire tour to supporting the Anita Association− and Toni Cayena, who will liven up the second part of the evening, dedicated to the world of music.
The fundraising will be carried out through the sale of tickets ---at a cost of 25 euros each---, and contributions from companies and individuals. Zero Row tickets are also available for those who wish to collaborate with the project but cannot attend the gala. Among others, Noel, Benfumat, Semon, Turrons Vicens, Oller del Mas, and institutions such as Tech Barcelona, Fundación Albert Bosch, Barcelona Centro Universitario, The New Barcelona Post, and Barcelona Health Hub are collaborating with the initiative.
