The prestigious Novum Design Award architecture prizes, which recognize design and excellence in buildings around the world, have awarded the renovation project of Naturgy's new headquarters in Barcelona (Diagonal, 525) with the Gold award. The Sanzpont Arquitectura studio led the rehabilitation of the space, which aimed to convert the old construction into a new sustainable model to reduce the environmental impact generated by its use. It opened last April.
In the process of renovating the building, care has been taken to ensure that all processes, both design and construction, comply with environmental standards in terms of eco-efficiency and sustainability. Similarly, most of the materials used are environmentally friendly. All in all, the electricity company has won LEED Gold certification, which certifies that the new headquarters is a sustainably built building.
The project has converted the building into an eco-efficient model, thanks to improved thermal insulation and energy consumption. BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology has also been integrated into its development, thanks to which the entire construction process has been digitized ---which speeds up the process of making improvements or discovering errors--- and has transformed the headquarters into a digital construction. The work area has also been improved, an open space has been created, which makes coordination between colleagues much simpler. The offices, however, also have closed meeting rooms, open collaboration spaces between teams, and multipurpose rooms.
The real estate company Colonial, owner of the block, has leased the offices to Naturgy for a period of ten years. The building has 5,200 square meters distributed over nine floors, plus two basement floors of 900 square meters and two outdoor terraces of 400 square meters.
