The climate emergency is increasingly present in daily life, jeopardizing the future of cities that still depend too much on cars, a source of pollution and traffic jams. This is where the train emerges as the most sustainable option to structure the territory. With this scenario, The New Barcelona Post is organizing a conference with experts in urban planning, sustainability, and mobility to discuss these key issues for the Catalan capital.
The conference Ferrocarril, Ciudades y Medio Ambiente (Railway, Cities and Environment), with the collaboration of Renfe and the Catalunya Europa Foundation, will be held next Friday, October 18, at Estación de França from ten in the morning until one thirty in the afternoon. To attend, you must reserve a ticket, completely free, at this link.
The program will be divided into two round tables, moderated by the head of communication of the Catalunya Europa Foundation, Mar Redondo Justel. The first will analyze the integration of the railway into the cities of the future, with the participation of consultant and partner at Harmon Pau Solanilla; the director of the Fundació Catalunya Europa, Dolors Camats; industrial engineer Manuel Gómez Acosta, advisor to Renfe Ingeniería y Mantenimiento, and El Periódico journalist specialized in infrastructure Cristina Buesa.
The second table will focus on the opportunity that climate change can represent to boost the train. The experts who will participate will be the spokesperson for the Platform for Public Transport (PTP), Daniel Pi; researcher at the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC), Jordi Solé; doctor in Biological Sciences Mercè Rius, formerly general director of Environmental Quality and Climate Change of the Generalitat and director of the Catalan Energy Institute (ICAEN), and popularizer José Luís Gallego.
