The most extensive retrospective exhibition to date on Barcelona artist Jordi Colomer has flooded the Macba with audiovisual installations, collages, photographic series, sculptures, and live actions. Under the name Jordi Colomer. Façana Foto Festa Futur Fideus, the exhibition proposes a journey through Colomer's career, from the late 1980s to the present day.
The exhibition, which can be seen until September 24, invites visitors to take this journey in a disordered way, avoiding chronological arrangements. The more than 50 works that make up the exhibition follow another common thread: the scenic dimension, where the illusory and reality converge.
Curated by Martí Peran, the exhibition addresses the collective life of cities from the various angles and disciplines that shape Colomer's creative universe. The artist, born in Barcelona in 1962, has explored multiple formats to address issues such as popular imagination, community, fiction, utopia, and provisionality.
The retrospective of his work has resulted in a mix of stories, objects, and geographies. In addition to compiling outstanding works from his career, three new productions have been developed for the exhibition: Abecedario argentino, featuring children from Buenos Aires exploring concepts based on their initials; Spanish Coast, and El Balcó, which includes the collaboration of the Casal dels Infants del Raval.
The exhibition will be accompanied by the publication of a book about Colomer's universe. With texts by Martí Peran, Bendetta Casini, Ignasi Duarte, Carolina Olivares, and Núria Gómez Gabriel, it will review the practice of an artist who, in addition to having represented the Spanish pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2017, has presented numerous national and international exhibitions, and has works in collections such as those of the Museo Reina Sofía, the Pompidou in Paris, and the Mumok in Vienna.
