The benchmark fair for the mobile phone sector is preparing for its return to Barcelona. After the cancellation of the 2020 edition, the organizers of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) want this year's edition to be in-person, but guarantee the safety of attendees with the incorporation of the latest regulations and technologies that create a contactless environment. The GSMA is also evaluating the possibility of conducting rapid tests to access the venue.

The measures decided by the GSMA will be complemented by the security and prevention protocol that Fira de Barcelona has created for the celebration of congresses, which has been endorsed by Hospital Clínic. This protocol defines one-way routes to separate attendee flows; plastic screens to protect stands; capacity control; hydroalcoholic gel dispensers everywhere and the obligation to use it before entering, for example, a talk, and maintaining safety distances at all times. The Fira protocol was already tested at Biz Barcelona, the Saló de l'Ocupació, and the FHG Forum, held at the end of 2020.

Beyond the new precautions that may be taken, the Mobile will change dates and will be held from June 28 to July 1, hoping that the pandemic will have improved. For now, the GSMA indicates that more than 700 exhibitors have confirmed their participation, according to La Vanguardia. Likewise, the best spaces in the pavilions of the Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona are already contracted by companies such as Google, Huawei, and Microsoft. Although the MWC is the most important fair held in Barcelona, this year we are also awaiting the celebration of other events that, given the context, it will also be crucial to see how they develop for the future of Fira, such as Alimentaria and the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE), which will debut in Barcelona after saying goodbye to Amsterdam.
