The metro network grows with new stops

The Government strengthens public transport by promoting sustainable mobility, connectivity, and economic reactivation

The Metro Network grows with new stops. This Sunday, the L5 Ernest Lluch station, between Barcelona and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, comes into operation, and three more L10 Sud stops will soon open in the Zona Franca. With the launch of the new stations, the Government provides more coverage to the public transport service to promote sustainable mobility, contributes to the country's connectivity, and bets on economic reactivation.

More connectivity, intermodality, and accessibility

The Ernest Lluch stop will be an interchange with the tram, thus improving connectivity and intermodality in the public transport network. The Generalitat has invested close to 18 million euros to complete its commissioning.

The new L5 station is located between the Collblanc and Pubilla Cases stops, until now separated by 1.2 kilometers, when the usual distance between stations is between 700 and 800 meters. Thus, in addition to offering more metro coverage, this station will allow correspondence with the Trambaix (lines T1, T2, and T3) and will therefore favor intermodality. In this sense, it is expected that 15,000 travelers will use it every day, of which 15% will interchange with the tram. The stop has three levels: street, concourse, and platforms.

New L10 stops

During the current legislature, three new L10 Sud stops are also expected to come into service in the Zona Franca, located in the Marina del Prat Vermell neighborhood, in the Sants-Montjuic District.

These are the Port Comercial/La Factoria, Ecoparc, and ZAL/Riu Vell stations, which are expected to register more than one million annual travelers. These stations will serve the industrial Zona Franca, along with the already existing Zona Franca inaugurated a year ago.

Less CO2 emissions

The new metro network stops represent a firm step forward on the sustainable path. On the one hand, the commissioning of the Ernest Lluch station will save the emission of 673 tons of CO2 equivalent per year.

Thanks to the large volume of users who will join public transport, the three L10 stations will mean a saving in emissions of 289 tons of CO2 equivalent annually.

The Department of the Vice-Presidency and of Digital Policies and Territory has underway or has completed a set of works and projects in the metro network to boost the public transport system and more sustainable mobility.
